I couldn't agree more. When I moved to Minneapolis I
was suprised how few late night eating options there
were here (especially outside of downtown). Even
though these days I'm never am out past 10:00, I think
it's great to have options for folks around the clock.
Manny's Torta's is open until 3:00 AM on the
weekends. It's okay for Minneapolis to be more
cosmopolitan.
I can't speak to the perception of the City Council
not granting liquor licenses to Latino businesses. In
my neck of the woods (Lake and 27th Ave), much of the
debate over liquor licenses is wrapped up in parking
and noise issues. It's a shame, because there are
some great establishments, Latino and non-Latino, that
really have the potential to help continue to
revitalize the neighborhood. But some in the
neighborhood understandably don't like being woken up
several times a week by noisy (or drunk) patrons.
But I don't see why it is not possible to balance the
concerns of neighbors over parking and noise; and find
ways to allow fun (and legal) establishments to
thrive.

I must say that I'd love to see this city move on from
the 1950's once and for all. (That statement isn't
just about food and liquor licenses). Food until 3:00
am is just fine with me. I would even go so far as to
argue that the more legitamate activities we have
going on throughout this city at any hour of the night
the less illegitimate activities we'll have going on
throughout this city at any hour of the night. Let's
make Minneapolis a 24-hour city.
