I attended the McLaughlin-Police Federation press conference as the location at 46th and Bryant was 5 minutes from my home. I have three issues raised by McLaughlin that I put out for Rybak or surrogate comment, Hakeem or surrogate comment, or McLaughlin or surrogate clarification. 1. McLaughlin pledged a commitment to the Federal Mediation Agreement by promsing to benchmark the hiring and retention of minority police officers. 2. McLaughlin promised more police patrols in low-crime areas. (I have heard stories regarding response times and/or the number of squad cars on duty in Southwest Minneapolis.) 3. McLaughlin made an analogy regarding hiring new police officers with the current budget situation: if your roof is leaking, you do not make a double mortgage payment that month, you fix the leaking roof to save the foundation of your home. Is this a good analogy for our current budget situation? Bill Dooley Kenny REMINDERS: 1. Be civil! Please read the NEW RULES at http://www.e-democracy.org/rules.
