In my first term (four years) on the Library Board I was the only male on the
board (8 members: 7 women and 1 man). I thought it was great to be on the
board serving with such distinguished women leaders.

In the DFL endorsement for Library Board this year there were 6 men seeking the
endorsement and 2 women, as Loki mentioned both women were endorsed.

I have been a strong advocate for women's rights and I support the ratification
of an unamended Equal Rights Amendment, repeal of laws restricting women's
reproductive freedom, protection of lesbian/gay/bisexual/transgender civil
rights,
eliminating racism, freedom from violence, and opposition to punitive welfare
reform.

I am honored to have the endorsement of the DFL Feminist Caucus and the
Minnesota National Organization for Women (NOW).

The most important issue at this time on the Library Board is to solve the
budget crisis. My goal is to develop a sustainable financial strategy to
restore the operating budget. We must look at creative and innovative ways to
fund and provide library services, develop more community partnerships and
increase cooperation with the county, city, schools and parks.

Creating Great Libraries for ALL of Minneapolis !

Subject: Re: [Mpls] Star Tribune endorsements for Library Board -

Just in case someone is about to post a follow up on the misogyny of the DFL,
of the twenty-four DFL endorsed candidates running for office in Minneapolis,
there are thirteen endorsed men and eleven endorsed women.

The gender split for the Library Board is four endorsed men to two endorsed
women and I'm sure it's possible for us to have endorsed a more equitable slate
if there had been more than two women seeking endorsement. As it is, we
endorsed both women who sought the DFL endorsement.

And I haven't seen any posts about our gender bias in endorsing two women for
the two spots on the Board of Estimate and Taxation (though I'm sure that will
be coming soon).
