Bleak Environmental report card for Minneapolis Mayor
R.T. Rybak;
challenger Peter McLaughlin proposes environmental and
energy plan for Minneapolis
Mayoral Candidate Peter McLaughlin today unveiled a
major environmental and energy initiative for the City
of Minneapolis. Environmentalists supporting
McLaughlin also issued a stinging rebuke of
environmental claims made by Mayor RT Rybak, charging
Rybak with taking credit for environmental policies
initiated by others and for curtailing environmental
efforts needed by the City. ...
Unbelievable! I didn't think I'd live to see the day when someone would
run for mayor who really gets it, and gets it on several levels. This
McLaughlin is good; he's real good. He has just incorporated some of the
third party's hopes and dreams into a major party as a candidate and a
representative of the party leadership, begun a process of healing some
rifts in the community fabric, and, not at all incidentally, shown that
he has a realistic bead on how bureaucracy, when in disarray, can muck
up the progress of an entire city. And stepped to the plate with a
clear, concrete way to address both bureaucratic disarray and energy
issues in the face of cataclysmic changes we are undergoing.
Now that's impressive.
