(Part 2 of my post)

Ward 6

Many of you might remember that I initially challenged Dean Zimmermann within
the Green Party and (along with Barb Lickness) ran in the 6th ward primary. I
respected all of the other candidates as legitimate people who could do the
job, I just had ideological disagreements with all of them.

The fact that Dean simply doesn't seem (this word is important) to care about
those with whom he disagrees bothers me. It's bad form to publicly attack the
supporters of another candidate, and to gloat when you've won a political
battle or an election.

I don't agree with the taxi 2000 project, and I really didn't like Dean's
initial vote for Barb Johnson as council president. (Robert Lilligren also
voted for Barb Johnson if I'm not mistaken.)

Also, despite our public disagreements, I have great respect for Jim Graham and
Barb Lickness. Their arguments in favor of Robert Lilligren are intelligent
and persuasive.....and might just persuade me if they were made by Robert
himself.

And so, it comes down to their sharpest ideological difference. The conduct of
the Minneapolis Police. Robert claims that CODEFOR was working and his web
site does not even mention police misconduct or his votes to scrap civillian
review and his hostillity towards CUAPB. Come on Mr. Vice President just admit
once that there is a need to watchdog the cops, and that police misconduct
happens in Minneapolis.

Robert Lilligren won't do that. He doesn't seem to admit to making mistakes.

Dean on the other hand has repeatedly stood up to the police federation, and
helped people who were mistreated through the claims committee. Dean is also
on the side of the have-nots, while Vice President Lilligren refers to himself
as a developer and a landlord.

I would vote for Dean Zimmermann.

Ward 7

I really liked Lisa Goodman four years ago, when she was progressive and voted
against then chief Olson along with Jim Niland and Lisa McDonald. Today, her
heavy handed style is too reminiscent of Jackie Cherryhomes.

I would vote for anyone else.

Ward 8

Elizabeth Gidden

Ward 9

Gary Schiff was the original author of an ordinance passed by the last council
that monitored police behavior. Since then, he seems to have had a paradigm
Schiff...er shift.

During the McManus hearings, he said that all of the problems with the
Minneapolis Police was a fake publicity stunt by the Mayor's office. He knows
better. He's also gotten a little bit meaner while in office.

Now that I am a 9th ward home owner, I will vote for Dave Bicking.

Ward 13

I got to know Lisa McDonald pretty well druing the 2001 elections. I had
significant ideological disagreements with her, but I think she would be a good
fit for the 13th ward. I don't know the challenger.

I have no opinion on wards 1, 10, 11, and 12, and for personal reasons I'll
keep my opinions about the 3rd ward race to myself.
