Some will see in the election guide in the paper that
there are two candidates who have been awarded
endorsement by Minnesota Lavender Greens.

Minnesota Lavender Greens unanimously endorsed Cam
Gordon and Dave Bicking in their respective races for
city council.

We are pleased that these two candidates sought out
our endorsement and pursued us and encouraged us to
again endorse this year. We came up with a tough
endorsement process at a rather late date but these
two candidates considered it important enough to rise
to the challenge.

In fact, we put up such a course for candidates that
they are the only two to date to have successfully
completed all facets of our endorsement process.

Lavender Greens is honored to have committments from
these two candidates in writing that demonstrates a
strong committment to utilizing public policy in
addressing problems facing the gay, lesbian, bisexual,
transgender, intersex and queer inviduals in our
community.

We focused on issues on which the candidates can most
directly have an impact including police training
aimed at addressing police abuse and improved police
community relations around glbtiq concerns, equity for
glbtiq public employees, the needs of homeless people
who are disproportionately glbtiq, people with
HIV/AIDS, the needs of glbtiq youth, and continued
support for the city department of health and human
services which has historically been ahead of higher
levels of government in responding to public health
issues affecting city residents including those
disproporationately or specifically impacting glbtiq
residents.

For those of you in Ward 2 and Ward 9 who would like
more information on these candidates positions on
glbtiq issues before you vote this Tuesday, I would be
happy to forward you the respective candidates
questionaires(they are too lengthy for the list).
