Tamir raises some good points about Don Samuels, however, I don't think
all of them are well founded.
First, just because someone is a Christian, doesn't mean they support
the views of Bush. Even if someone openly talks about their faith, that
still doesn't mean they support Bush.
Don Samuels was ordained at my church - Judson Memorial Baptist Church.
Judson is not a "normal", Jerry Falwell-style Baptist church - in fact,
quite the contrary. Judson and University Baptist Church are both
liberal and ecumenical. They are both American Baptist Churchs
(www.abc-usa.org), not Southern or General Conference Baptist.
For example - Judson welcomes GLBT people, and has ordained openly gay
pastors. That's just one example, but I think that alone should show
that we starkly different from the current President or the Religious Right.
My main point is that just because someone identifies themselves as a
Christian DOES NOT mean they are part of the Religious Right. I, for
one, am a Christian, and you really can't get much more liberal than me.
The other issues are things that I can't address (I'm not from that
ward, and haven't been paying close attention to the race). In the
future, please don't make assumptions about people's religious opinions,
and how those affect their political views.
