I add my voice to the chorus and thank all the candidates from the bottom of my heart. It takes a lot courage to put your name forth as a candidate and win or lose you deserve respect and thanks. Without you our democracy would be hollow indeed.

Now that we have results I notice that despite a great crop of candidates the turnout was pathetic. Local election results hang on every vote yet only seven Wards could muster 5,000 folks at the polls. Out of 228,538 registered voters only 70,987 decided the contests in their area were important enough to make their opinions known. Assuming approximate equity in registrations there are 17,580 voters in each Ward. In the inner core where government's impact is probably most heavily felt the turnout was the lowest. In Wards 3, 5, and 6 barely 3,000 folks voted! What is up with this?

We, the opinion leaders of the city must take responsibility for this failure. We, the most connected and knowledgeable about the city and its workings must commit to changing this. Minneapolis can be great but we must lead in every area including voter turnout. Even New York City had a higher turnout that we did in Minneapolis. Of course Bloomberg did spend over $65,000,000 dollars. How did that compare with what RT & Peter spent? Guys?
