I am honored to be elected as the District # 3 Park Board Commissioner. Some random thoughts about some random numbers... My precinct 2-2 was the votingest with 55.20% with just a little over half the registered voters coming out to vote. 2163 registered 1194 voting. The only other precincts over 50%: 8-7 50.46% 13-6 51.57% In my precinct 997 out of 1194 or 83% of those voters also voted in the park board district election. At the bottom of the turnout numbers were: 2-4 with and astounding 6.09% of registered voters (140 of 2298) Walt Dziedzic won the precinct with 54.55% of the votes for District #1 Commissioner with 36 votes, Luann Wilcox received 28 and there were 2 write in votes. So 66 out of 140 voters also voted for the District #1 commissioner. So Walt Dziedzic received 36 out of 140 total votes cast or a grand total of 1.52% of the registered voters- determining the winner in 2-4. I want to be clear, I am not to trying to discount Commissioner Dziedzic's win. In my District, 2-10, I had 80% of the vote, but that represents only approx. 12% of the registered voters. Next to the bottom of voter turnout was 3-1 with 7.31% Of particular concern is that young voters are not voting. Another question... Redistricting has just gone in to effect this year as a redrawing of equal populations in ward and districts. So why does 7-11 have just 721 registered voters? So there were a total of only 170 voters in the whole precinct (23.58%) Compare that with 7-8, also a downtown precinct, that has 3464 registered voters. Thanks, Scott Vreeland Seward (612) 721-7892 REMINDERS: 1. Be civil! Please read the NEW RULES at http://www.e-democracy.org/rules.
