Dear List Members,

I thank all of you for your involvement in this election, this list, and community affairs in general.

I want to thank Cara Letofsky for all her hard work and for running such a strong, good campaign in Ward 2. I know and hope that her work to help make this a better city is far from over. I look foward to working with her again.

So many people helped with our effort. Our core campaign team was tireless, talented and a joy to work with, but I want to give special acknowledgment to my Campaign Manger, Robin Garwood.

Robin was Field Coordinator for our unsuccessful effort in 2001 and he never lost faith. In 2004 he returned to manage the '05 campaign as well as the field. His fingerprints are all over everything we did, he was part of every major decision and deserves tons of credit for how effective we were able to be.

Now, I feel incredibly honored and grateful for the opportunity to serve all the people of Ward 2.

As I make the transition from candidate to elected official I feel it is appropriate --- and important --- to review and share with you some of my intentions and aims.

As City Council Member, I will make serving all the people of the Second Ward, and the City, my top priority.

Throughout the campaign I articulated a vision that many of us share of a better Minneapolis. I will work to help realize that vision -- to make our neighborhoods healthier, safer and stronger, and to make our city one we can all be proud of, where we all have a voice in the decisions that affect our lives, where the environment is protected, and where everyone has access to the rich economic, educational and cultural opportunities Minneapolis has to offer.

During the campaign I presented my ideas for improving policing, enhancing transit, supporting our families and small businesses, making our campaigns cleaner, connecting people to their government and for making Minneapolis a greener, more environmentally sustainable city. These will continue to be areas where I will push for progress.

I also aim to bring a focus on fairness, civility, openness and service to our city government, where all city officials and employees are better able to work with integrity and respect for each other and for all the people of Minneapolis.

Finally, I want you, and all the people of the Second Ward and the City, to be able to use the Second Ward office to help bring your priorities, great ideas and solutions to City Hall. The best ideas for making our city better may not come from me or anyone at City Hall at all. They may come from you.
As a Council Member I will be in a good position to help move them forward.

To help me do all of this, however, I will need your help.

Please stay involved. Keep engaging in the civic discourse on this list and elsewhere. Help keep me informed. As I have said before, I welcome your support as well as your criticism, for I believe that open discussion and the full participation of as many voices and viewpoints as possible can only help make ours a better democracy and lead us to better solutions in the future.

I look forward to working with you all.

Gratefully yours, in peace and cooperation,

Cam Gordon
Seward

2nd Ward City Council Member-Elect
