All I have worried about is (a) parking in one spot over 72 hours,
(b) being parked on streets that have rush hour restrictions, and (c)
parking near a fire hydrant or stop sign, but in Stevens Square,
where I live, nobody seems to be following any of the laws. You can
be six inches from a stop sign and still not get a ticket (unless you
have an out-of-state plate).
My parents live in Maple Grove, and I got a ticket when I had my car
on the street at 2:10am (illegal to park on streets between 2 and
6am). I don't see how these types of laws are necessary.
Perhaps more time could be spent preventing and responding to crime
than giving useless tickets, but that's just my opinion.
I now don't park on the streets because I talked with a Minneapolis
Police Officer who told me cars parked on the street are more likely
to get broken into, as a friend of mine experienced. My car's still
outside, but hopefully it's safer.

Is it just me who can't find the applicable laws, or does the
following ordinance pretty much make everybody who parks their cars
overnight in their residential neighborhoods on the street, or all
day during the day on weekends, a criminal? I'd say this law,
clearly mostly unenforced, is ridiculous. There are probably
100,000 violations per day. We aren't living in Maple Grove, after
all. See (b), (c) and (d) below, in particular.
478.100. General time limits for parking.
(a) No person shall park a vehicle or permit it to stand upon
any street in the congested zone for a period of time longer than
sixty (60) minutes during the hours between 8:00 a.m. and 6:00
p.m., except on Sundays and legal holidays.
(b) No person shall park a vehicle or permit it to stand upon
any street for a period of time longer than sixty (60) minutes
between the hours of 2:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. of any day, except
physicians on emergency calls.
(c) No person in charge of a vehicle shall park or permit it to
stand upon any street or highway in the city for more than two (2)
consecutive hours, between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.,
unless otherwise designated on signs erected and installed.
(d) No person shall park a vehicle or permit it to stand upon
any street or highway in the city for more than six (6) consecutive
hours between the hours of 6:00 p.m. and 2:00 a.m., except in an
emergency or unless otherwise designated on signs erected and
installed.
(e) For the purpose of the regulations relating to limited
parking, any vehicle moved a distance of not more than two (2)
blocks during the limited parking period shall be deemed to have
remained stationary. (Code 1960, As Amend., ยง 411.130)
I have a garage in which my car is always parked, but the recent
street sweeping got me to wondering.
