I'm curious what folks perception of the smoking ban
issue played in the Minneapolis City Council and
Mayoral Election. It appears, that like elsewhere in
the country, that candidates who did not cater to
revising the smoking ban to exclude some bars faired
better in the election.

This would parallel other election results in other
communities and other parts of the country when people
have been allowed to vote for candidates where this
has been a hot issue or where the people have been
able to vote on such issues directly(the Washington
state public smoking which won Nov. 5th at the ballot
box for example).

I believe that we should pay close attention to what
the county commissioners do on this issue and let them
know, that like most every other community in the
country, Hennepin County residents support a public
smoking ban.

If you are unable to attend today's hearing to express
your opinion, give them a call.

I would also reccomend that folks start entertaining
who would run against county commissioners who want to
step back from the smoking ban such Steinglen(sp?).
