That would be good for Hobos, only one train to catch (LOL)! It's possible
for the same train to run from St.Cloud through Minneapolis and St.Paul to
Hastings. The advantages to that operating plan are limited though, few
riders ....
**You are surmising on ridership and who wants to go where. There has
been alot of interest off list about trains and yes, it would be good for
Hobos...having crossed the country 3 times on a train before I was 5,
with continued useage since; along with having a father who rode the
rails....
Dyna:
There is a major disadvantage to the long route- a delay between, say,
St.Cloud and Minneapolis would make that train late all the way too Red
Wing. By running separate trains over the Northstar
cr and Redrock lines a delay on one line will not affect the other.
**Wrong..do you think the train leaving New York is delayed all the way
to Chicago? They have schedules in which there is a short time to get on and
off. In Europe, you go from country to country without delay on one train.
Are we not as intelligent that a train system in Minneapolis should run as
well?
Of course, there's more than one train running on that rail line so timing
from
start to finish is not limited.
Dyna:
I don't think we'll ever see rail along that part of 494 corridor. There are
no
existing tracks along that route, and no right away space to put tracks. A
commuter rail system from the metro area will ultimately be very much of a
hub
and spoke system because that's the way railroad developed...
**There are one or two options in the planning for 494, if they get the
right
away is another story according to a poster. There are many cities having
a 3 line grid across the city with just a couple of lines that start from
the northeast/west
going to the southwest/east making an X across the city into the outlying
areas
What better place to have a line crossing the city coming from Saint Paul,
the airport,
Eden Prairie and then the lake area. Didn't the railroad develop by crossing
the
country coast to coast?
