There has been a long stream of accusations and innuendo flung at Smith
Parker (now Smith Partners) by Ms. Young, Mr. Avidor, and other STRIDE
members and fellow travelers, implying that there is something nefarious
in Smith Partners' relationship to Hennepin County, the 35W Access
Project, the Lake Street Repaving Project, and other adventures in
transit and road building. Conflict of interest is one of the
accusations, though nothing like proof has been proffered.
None of the people who choose to bring this up again and again bothered
to be part of the process or to present their objections about Smith
Partners to the pertinent committee, commission, board, PAC, or other
public body six years ago when the decision was made. The decision was
by consensus of the committee, according to Larry Blackstad, Henn. Co.
Transit and Community Works Dept. That committee later morphed into
Midtown Community Works and became a non-profit under the tutelage of
the Minneapolis Foundation.
Evan Remnick is the latest to fall under the jaundiced eye of said
listers. This on going complaining is over six years old and is trotted
out whether the occasion calls for it or not. In my neighborhood, this
is called "pot stirring," and its practitioners are held in very, very
low regard. To make the cheese more binding, now this old slander is
being imported from the blogosphere to this list.
This bile isn't even about Remnick, who is just a guy who works for a
company that has a contract for services with Henn. Co. This is about
people who didn't choose to participate at the right time, who didn't
"get their way," and who see this list as an an opportunity for whining
about that.
