Thanks everyone. I will go forward assuming it is a WTS problem and that MQ
is fine. I will try to use the local MQ Services/MQ Explorer to stop and
start things, but I guess I'll have to use amqmdain command, perhaps in a
script, when using WTS to manage the associated processes (channel
initiator, trigger monitor, listener).
I hope the CSD03 will help, or the Eclipse-based manager that was announced
at the conference..

FYI: I've heard fairly recently that IBM are going to certify/support use
of Terminal Services with MQ 5.3 CSD03
whenever that is?
Peter,
We've have several type of issues as yourself with WTS with MQ, basically
as IBM don't support its use, we use alternative
remote products such as PC Anywhere (which they do support).
Hope this helps

Hi Peter,
your problem is most likely caused by Terminal Services.
My understanding of this is that each terminal services session gets its
own virtual machine, and does not share memory resources (especially shared
memory) with the main Windows system. This means that apllications running
in a terminal services windows cannot access the queue manager (started as
a service) in bindings mode, as that makes extensive use of shared memory.
If you kill the queue manager tasks (not normally recommended), then you
can start them under terminal services, but they may well break when you
close your session.
We have also found that you generally can't start or stop queue managers or
do much of anything else MQ wise using terminal services. We tend to use
remote console control tools (PCAnywhere, VNC, Dameware, Tivoli, NetFinity
etc) or BMC Patrol based tools instead of terminal services.
Regards,
Neil Casey.

I've noticed, just starting last week, that two different MQ servers, via
Windows Terminal Services client, show the MQ service icon (in the lower
right corner of Windows) shows a down red arrow when in fact the queue
manager is running. Also, looking in the MQ services MMC, the queue manager
and command server show a running status, while the channel initiator,
listener and trigger monitor show a stopped status. When I check Task
Manager, all are running.
In order to resync the MMC, I have to use Task Manager to kill (End
Process) the runmqchi.exe, the runmqlsr.exe and runmqtrm.exe processes.
Then I can use the MQ Services MMC to start these three processes.
I saw the recent notes on conflicts in the Explorer/MMC due to someone
running RUNMQSC while the MMC was up, but I'm not sure this is the same
thing, as I've seen the same symptoms on two different servers. One is
5.2.1 and one is 5.3 (October). The 5.3 was installed two months ago.
It is possible that more than one person has an MQ Services/explorer open
at a time on these two queue managers/servers.. Could that cause the
problem?
TIA
Peter
