It must be related to the new way expired messages on queues behave in MQ 6.0. Check this thread out, forgot all about it. Interesting.

Right, but where is this documented? And I thought the only Expiry cleanup utility was available on z/OS via the Expiry Interval attribute of the QM.

If I had to guess, it sounds like a task that does periodic clean-up, e.g. check for expired messages and get rid of them.

32 bit RedhatEnterprise Server 3, Update 5.  

I found the below in the QM's error logs as it was starting. What the heck is EXPIRER?
