I think it does not matter, what MQ meant in the past, because now the official 
product name is (for the moment ;-) ) "WebSphere MQ" and this is not an 
abbreviation. A common abbreviation of "WebSphere MQ" is "WMQ".

"WebSphere MQ" is a product which does messaging and queueing and it deals with 
messages and uses queues :-D.
