Jason,

I do monitor the NonUnicast packets in our vlan's. These are monitored
at the router module in the 6509's.
I.m.o. it makes no sense to monitor the broadcasts at all the
interfaces.
An example config:

Directory[RTAVHZK041.broadcast162]: Network\Routers\RTAVHZK041
Options[RTAVHZK041.broadcast162]: growright, nopercent, perminute,
integer
YLegend[RTAVHZK041.broadcast162]: Packets
Target[RTAVHZK041.broadcast162]:
.1.3.6.1.2.1.2.2.1.12\Vlan162&.1.3.6.1.2.1.2.2.1.18\Vlan162:[EMAIL PROTECTED]
MaxBytes[RTAVHZK041.broadcast162]: 12500000
Title[RTAVHZK041.broadcast162]: MRTG: Non-unicast Packets per minute in
VLAN 162
PageTop[RTAVHZK041.broadcast162]: <H1>Non-unicast packets per minute in
VLAN 162</H1>
ShortLegend[RTAVHZK041.broadcast162]: pkt/min
WithPeak[RTAVHZK041.broadcast162]: ymwd
kMG[RTAVHZK041.broadcast162]:
Legend1[RTAVHZK041.broadcast162]: Non-unicast packets IN during interval
Legend2[RTAVHZK041.broadcast162]: Non-unicast packets OUT during
interval
Legend3[RTAVHZK041.broadcast162]: Peak # of Non-unicast packets IN
during interval
Legend4[RTAVHZK041.broadcast162]: Peak # of Non-unicast packets OUT
during interval
LegendI[RTAVHZK041.broadcast162]: # In:&nbsp;
LegendO[RTAVHZK041.broadcast162]: # Out:&nbsp;
 <TABLE>
   <TR><TD>System:</TD>     <TD>RTAVHZK041 (Routermodule) in
BSAVHZK041</TD></TR>
   <TR><TD>Description:</TD><TD># Non-unicast packets per minute in VLAN
162</TD></TR>
 </TABLE>

Since the number of packets per second is rather low in most of our
vlan's I use the per minute option to get a sensible graph.

Hth,

Jan.

Subject: [mrtg] Early apology...

Just let me start off with an early apology...I've been using MRTG for
about a year now, but only for basic traffic graphing using cfgmaker and
the most basic of setups. But recently a client has asked us to graph
broadcast traffic on their network. I found a template which will graph
NUcastPkts among a few other things and I was wondering where to put
this template and if it is possible to update it with the newer
broadcast only O.I.D. Also, when graphing packets/s instead of bits/s,
does anything need to be done so that the graphs display properly? Has
anyone ever tried graphing broadcast packets on a Cisco 6509?

Thanks very much.
