I have been using a product called the Weatherduck which is a serial port device (NT and W2k only). http:\\www.itwatchdogs.com.
The device has internal sensors for temperature, humidity, airflow and light. There is also a port for connecting 1-WIRE sensors which allow you to extend the reach to other cabinets or closets. The device software installs a MIB extension for the four internal sensors on the NT/W2K box which it is attached to. This makes it easy to use with MRTG for these devices. For the external 1-wire devices, I use a PERL script to grab the temps and return them to MRTG. The device has an Alarm page which can send E-mail notifications based on thresholds which you set. If you are adventurous you can try Qkits http://www.qkits.com/serv/qkits/diy/pages/QK145.asp or http://www.phanderson.com/tm125.html These serial port 1-WIRE units are less expensive but require some handy work to put together and a little programming to grab the data. Hope this helps, Kevin -----Original Message----- From: Kerry Werry [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Friday, February 28, 2003 3:57 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: [mrtg] Monitoring Temperature Sorry for the previous mixed up post, please see below: We would like to monitor temperature in our server rack in our data center. We do not have any equipment that we can use for this. Does anyone have any suggestion for temperature monitoring (utilizing MRTG of course), buying some new hardware is an option but what?? Kerry L.
