I'm using FQDN. Maybe that -t switch I was trying to find out about is just
for this.

Not ping-probe specific but you may want to run a ping script against
all the ip's (or are you using names?) to see if you can replicate. 150
may not seem like a lot but maybe enough are not answering (for
wahatever reason) and you are then subjected to retries and timeouts and
the time is adding up. Just a reality check.
