Make two graphs: One graph with MaxBytes and AbsMax at a low threshold, so you get the regular bandwidth.
One graph with MaxBytes where you want it and AbsMax at the absolute peak, so you get the big picture. I do this with my BGP updates, even though Alex flames me hot and heavy for using the "wrong" tool.
