It needs different pinouts on the crossover cable. 1 - 4 a 2 - 5 a 3 - 3 b 4 - 1 c 5 - 2 c 6 - 6 b 7 - 7 d 8 - 8 d (a, b, c, d are twisted pairs) Looking into the socket.... 12345678 |_ _| |__| In reality. pairs a and c are the only ones that matter.
