The highest speed in *what* interval? Per second, 5 seconds, 30 seconds, 1 minute - what?
The highest peak in a 5 minute window is going to be that 5 minute window. Once you get into the consolidation, the peak for a 30 minute sampling will be the greatest value in the 6 samples within that 30 minute window. In the 2 hour consolidation, the peak will be the greatest of the 4 30 minute winners, and in the 1 day consolidation, the peak will be in the 12 "winners" for each 2 hour window. If you increase the polling to per minute, nevermind native MRTG can't do it, you'll be able to catch more peaks, but you'll also increase the probably for normalization as well as the potential for errors and missed polls.
