What type of device are we talking about here? If these devices have interfaces that are constantly starting up and shutting down like the modems in a Cisco Access Router then updating your configuration once a week is not enough.
By standard ifIndexes are not supposed to be reused; however, this causes havoc on Management Software that relies on the ifIndex. If this is a Cisco Device configuring the device with "snmp server ifIndex persist" (12.1) or set snmp ifindex persist" (6.x) should help. Regards, Pete ---- Peter P. There are always many interfaces showing nothing, never getting data. I checked the log file. It shows error repeatly for those infterfaces, "Received SNMP response with error code error status: noSuchName index 2 (OID: ...)" I use snmpget to query those interfaces, get failed. It looks like those interfaces not existing. I update configuration files in crontab once a week. How can I avoid getting those interfaces(not existing, or never getting data). Thanks in advance. __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Mail - Easier than ever with enhanced search.
