If you must have both reading on the same graph then I think your suggestion is the best option. In my similar scenarios I just make 2 different graphs because I don't like the way one reading changes the scale making the other reading sometimes unreadable. Managers love graphs but only if they make sense to them so my philosophy is to keep them as simple as possible. You could also do some magic with multiple RRDs and combining of course, but that would require incorporating RRDTool and a good front-end like Routers2. Good luck!
