You don't need to configure snmpd.conf file. this file is for the snmp daemon that will respond snmp queries to this freebsd box. if you want to monitor this box from some other box, then only you need to configure the snmpd.conf.
for your steps, you'll have to configure your router with the snmp community string and preferably the acl to allow snmp access from this particular bsd box. then you can poll the router from the freebsd box using cfgmaker [EMAIL PROTECTED]'s ipaddress and save the output to a cfg file. you then run "mrtg path-to-cfg-file". that's all you need to do.
