John,

The only difference  I see -beside a different maxbytes setting- is the target 
line which is split in 2 for the Fa0/1 interface. These two parts should be on 
1 line.
To do some more troubleshooting you could have a look in the logfile which is 
created after starting mrtg with the '--logging=<some file name>' option
