Ok. To understand your environment, please give a few more details. How big of an mrtg installation do you have? Are you monitoring tens, hundreds, or thousands of devices? Are you using snmp v3? Are you using rateup or rrdtool? if rrdtool, which front-end? Do you use thresholding? or read the rrdfiles with another application? > We are contemplating moving it to a new box preferably with the latest > version, > and most likely moving it to a Red Hat OS on a VM instance on a ESX > platform. > > Has anyone ran into any gotchas or problems that may forwarn us of any > difficulty > we may find. Depends on the scaling answers above. rrdtool is disk intensive. For my installation, with about 570 devices (and about 8800 targets) I would not have wanted to try to deal with ESX disk performance. > > Also if anyone knows of any key issues that the latest version broke or > fixed > from version 2.15.2 it would be a help. The CHANGES file is pretty sparse. Mostly twiddling with the snmp libraries and adding Holt-Winter's aberrant behavior detection. http://oss.oetiker.ch/mrtg/pub/CHANGES -- Daniel J McDonald, CCIE #2495, CISSP #78281, CNX Austin Energy http://www.austinenergy.com
