Because maintaining our huge distributed MRTG/RRD/Routers2/Nagios system is becoming impossible, I'm in the process of creating a web-based admin tool based on probes and templates to maintain things like this.
I know several tools like this already exist, but they are not template-based, have no probing and autoconfiguration, and do not do a combined Nagios/MRTG setup. Nor do they cope with a distributed MRTG or Nagios configuration. I have no idea how long it will be until this is in beta, probably months or more. Depends on workload. But once it is available I'll make it open source for people to try out. Our current tool does a similar job but is not database or web based and is limited in probing ability. It is also far too specialised to our environment so I can't make it generally available.
