Not sure about this. I have 60 devices in MRTG, still using the default storage
technique. Each device is in its own .cfg file, and has its own subdirectory
under /var/www/mrtg.

My /etc/cron.d/mrtg has:

LANG=C
MAILTO=""
0-59/5 * * * * root bash -c "ls /etc/mrtg/*.cfg | xargs -l /usr/bin/mrtg"

I let Apache generate an automatic directory listing of /var/www/mrtg.

I use indexmaker to generate a separate index.html in each subdirectory for
each .cfg file.

I am sure it would be more efficient to use rrdtool, but I have not seen the
need. I could also use multiple cron jobs (get some parallelism), but since the
mrtg run completes within five minutes again I have not seen the need.

YMMV.

Indexmaker doesn't scale. Switch to rrdtool as the backend and routers2.cgi as
the front end if you are polling more than a dozen or so devices.

I'm only able to add 5 IP's. Indexmaker is not creating the html file for
anything after that. Also, now when I open any of the html file I get this:

isContentWindowPrivate instead (but only for frame scripts).
