The first think that comes to mind is make sure the "tables" are in deed tables
and not queries. You cannot add to a query but you should be able to add to
underlying tables with no problem. usually fields in tables cannot have their
data type changed once data has been entered into the field but you should be
able to edit data, add data or add new fields. The second thing that comes to
mind is the securites. I have my database set-up so that members of a given
group cannot edit tables etc. based on the security is set on their log in and
the group they are in...make sure your friend is loging in as an administrator.
Good Luck

My friend owns a small business. Someone wrote for her some software
keeping track of employee and clients and services rendered. This
software for a stand alone computer andis written in VB and MS
Access. It works fine with Windows 2000. But on a computer running
under Windows XP there are some problems:
1. for some tables you cannot add new records
2. for some tables you can add new records, but cannot retrieve them
to make updates.
Does anybody have an idea what is wrong?
Thanks in advance
