The MDE is a compiled version of the database in that it locks all the code away from the users. However, in order for it to work, the full installation of Access must be installed on the machine.
If you want to install a version of your application on a machine that does not have Access, then you need to be able to create a Runtime version of your application. As far as I know that requires the MS Access Developer Toolkit. http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/modcore /html/deovrdeployingaccesssolutions.asp Dawn Crosier Application Specialist "Education Lasts a Lifetime" This message was posted to a newsgroup. I'm sure this is an old quesiton. - compiling an access application to run as a standalone. I'm trying to help a social work group organize their purchasing department and found a purchase order program that I can adapt (I hope) on the Microsoft template page. However - the computers at the place are pretty old and they do not have the Microsoft Access Program. If I could prepare the program, "compile" it and then distribute it to the couple social work sites that would be great. I do not have MS Access Developer Toolkit. In Tools/Utilities - there is a function to make an .mde database - what is that, exactly?? Thanks in advance - Arthur Yahoo!
