I'm working on what should be a fairly basic project for a friend.
I'm trying to set him up with a form where he can select a client
and enter in the payments they made. I'm having trouble getting the
fields on my form to change to the new data when he selects a client.
BACKGROUND INFO:
Each week he will be importing data from an Excel sheet into a
database I created for him. This is your typical billing database. I
broke the data into 3 tables: clients, main, payments.
Clients: clientid, clientname
Main: ID, invoice#, hours, bill_rate, amount, clients.clientid,
other non-important fields
Payments: PrimaryKey, Main.ID, payment, datepaid
The relationships are:
Clients 1 -> many Main
Main 1 -> many Payments
I created three forms and have my client form as my primary form,
then a subform (Datasheet form) using the Main table and a subform
inside Main table's form using the Payments table. What I don't like
about this is I have to click on the "next record" buttons to find
the client I want. In my Client form I tried setting the clientname
field as a combo box, but when I select select a name none of the
fields are switched to the proper record, instead the client's name
is changed to the field selected.
Can somebody help me out and tell me what I'm suppose to do or point
me to some tutorials?
