I would suggest that the database for the church is easier but I would do
away with the table for weeks and, instead, include the date and amount in
the one table. This covers the situation where someone makes a donation
mid-week, makes it easier to group donations by period (e.g. by month, year
etc) and search across a time period. You'll also probably find a sample of
something similar on the net.

Subject: [ms_access] Building a new database

Hello,
I am very new at Access. I am looking for ways to
learn it.
I potentially have 2 projects. The first one is to
build a database about Feng Shui. The purpose would be
to enter a question such as: what is associated with
the living room, or what is associated with the
northern direction? So I would have a table for places
(kitchen, garden, bedroom, etc), tables for colors,
directions (N-S-E-W); and where do I put what is
associated with those things; for example, put a pair
of doves in the SW corner of a bedroom for a woman to
attract love, etc.?

The second project is build a database for the
church's weekly collection, by donor and amount, so
that at the end of the year, I have every donor with
his/her totals. (I know I would do this in Excel very
easily, but I am determined to learn Access). So I
would need a table for donors, and a table for
weeks(?), and one for amounts?

Which project is easiest for a newbie, and can you
please give me some pointers.

Thank you so much.

Dominique
