strange...

perhaps no need a dropdown, just have one textbox txtID then after update
use dlookup and display the name on your txtName if found otherwise view
msg...

145 would be one record ID.
Normally in the drop down they would scroll to the record they wanted.
With 20,000+ records it isn't practical.
So they would just like to enter the record ID and have a name
display.
It only allows for 1 character to be entered at a time in the drop
down box... if I enter a 1 (145), I need to click after the one
to get the 4, then click again in the box to get the 5.
