While you can store pictures in a database as OLE objects, it is not
recommended. I would take the pictures and put them in a subfolder and
place the path and file name into a field in the objects table. Then on the
form you can insert a picture object and set it's properties to the value in
that field to display the picture.

For simplicity, if you just have the form display in grid view, then you can
search and filter by right-clicking the rows. While not the prettiest, this
will be much easier than writing VBA code behind a button to do any fancier
searching, multiple column sorting, etc.

Subject: [ms_access] Database Design Help ?

Hi Everyone,

I am new to this group so please bear with me because I am no doubt
going to be asking some questions that may appear to be very basic to
some of you.

Because of personal finances, I simply can not afford to purchase of
the shelf computer programs, so I though about writing the programs
that I need in the Windows Office framework.

I have used Word and Excel for many years now, though not to their
full potential.

I wish to make a database for all the items that I own in my house
togther with photo's of said items.

I know how in my own mind how I want it to look on screen, but do not
have the first idea of how to do it. Can I also input data, search
data, print data etc from the screen that I want it to diisplay are
other questions.

Where should I start ..... ?

Your help would be most appreciated.

James
