One way is to set the date field's default value to Now() which will enter
today's date as the default. If you don't want today's date to be the default
then you can create an unbound form and put on it a textbox in which the user
can enter the default date. Set the Date field's default value to the value
entered on the first form as Forms!YourFirstForm!ControlName. When the user
clicks OK button after entering the date hide the form and then open the data
entry form.
