Hi Robert, You can try to develop anything you want ! Vertical / Horizontal lines is fine.
I have to say though that we try hard to stabilize MuseScore 2.0 by fixing bugs http://musescore.org/en/project/issues every single day. So we are trying to limit the number of new features we add currently.
