Thanks to all who replied and commented on this post.  I guess I came from an
environment where the development platform for all developers was Windows
and Micrcosoft Visual Studio and Visual C++.  All code from development
sites world wide was built from a single source repository on a nightly
basis.  We had a Build and release group that would port the nightly builds
to all supported computing platforms once nightly regression tests were run
on the primary development platform.  Visual Studio was configured to build
from DLL's shared libraries on development servers with only locally
modified code and libraries being built on the developer's machines.

All of your inputs have been highly helpful and I guess it falls on me to
learn and get familiar with QT and GIT.
