I decided to use 7z for it's better compression. Is that ok?

You'll find RPM- and DEB-packages too that I built using checkinstall. 
I'm not sure if they are of any use. At least the RPM installs fine on 
my OpenSUSE-12.3, but I don't know if the debian-package works. You 
might want to give it a try.
