@Jojo-Schmitz: Well, I am getting 255 instead of -1. I obtain -1 if I explicitely cast i._bracket to int. I ran the tests before and I couldn't see this problem, so I think it started when I installed gcc 5.0. At the moment I can't verify your other suggestions, but I will try and see if the result gets right. Thank you.
