I have never heard of the "crystal effect" before. No idea what it is, sorry. > But it seems that this effect was highly exaggerated as to real > feeling, correct ? All I can say is that the display as a whole and the color accuracy is fantastic, and the input ports are plenty. It also has a built-in card-reader and USB ports. > BTW, DELL U2317H(M) shows exceptionally nice pixel structure & better > colors (col=2nd, line= 5th from the bottom). Why didn't You choose the > one ? Because it is only a 23" display, and only has 1920x1080 resolution. I wanted specifically a IPS display with 2560x1440 or higher resolution to replace my dual monitor setup, and still give me enough desktop space for applications to work side-by-side (eg: debugging, coding etc.) I bought my U2711 about 1.5 years ago, and it just works! BTW: Since then Dell has released a newer U2711 - I think with less input ports (or they removed the card reader or something), but it could swivel 90 degrees to make a vertical display. I'm still very happy I got the one I did though.
