The purpose of this mailing list is discussion of the following topics:
1. Meetings and functions directly associated with the
Melbourne Solaris and Oracle Systems User Group
2. Solaris-specific questions/answers for the Melbourne
local Solaris community.
3. Sun/Oracle hardware specific questions/answers for
the Melbourne Sun/Oracle hardware ("Oracle Systems")
community.
Everything else is off-topic.
Many members of this list are subscribed to a large amount of list traffic
and this list should be kept light and on-topic to avoid the requirement
to filter and manage list traffic. There are many lists with a broader
scope which are ideal for general conversation. In addition, IRC provides
an excellent way to engage in chit-chat.
Furthermore, a short examination of list membership shows that the
majority of subscribers receive mail from this list to their work/business
email addresses and thus there is an expectation of a polite, spam-free
and on-topic environment.
In order to post to this list, you must be subscribed. All mail from non
subscribed addresses is manually moderated, which is not assured to happen
in a timely manner. This is primarily an anti-spam strategy.
Posters who do not comply with these rules will also be hand moderated
with the associated delays. Posters being hand moderated should not CC or
BCC mail to list moderators as the list software automatically does this
and the additional traffic is extremely annoying.
Finally, this list is provided using private resources and is not funded,
endorsed, supported, recommended or otherwise encouraged by Oracle or any
other commercial interest.
