The problem is solved. There was an extra . in my /etc/profile PATH Maybe everybody else knows that /etc/profile has to be set up before you login on the VT that you are going to use. Or is there some other way of getting the profile updated? A note to try: which msp430-ar after installing binutils might be useful. The curse of Documentation is that the people who know enough to write it know too much. Thanks, Garst
