How about using one of FTDI's USB interface chips?  The FT232 provides
a USB to serial port interface and the FT245 does a USB to parallel 
interface.  Both have far size FIFO's built in.  FTDI's web site
http://www.ftdichip.com has a lot of support software for the OS
side too.  Either way, the control micro on the JTAG could easily stay
an MSP430.

Anyway, just a thought.
