We're building a new laboratory around the MSP430 by adapting a
childrens' toy robot -- Little Tikes "Goofy Giggles".
Although this is still early in the development process, I'd be
interested in input from other faculty using this part
in teaching laboratories. The following link describes what we've done
so far. The objective of the course
is not robotics, but rather to build a mental bridge between high level
languages and the instruction execution
cycle, and to provide a clear model of execution contexts (e.g.
interrupts, threads). The course is a prerequisite
for operating systems, digital design, computer architecture, and
software engineering. It could also reasonably
be a prerequisite for compilers.
