Hello, a half year ago I started designing a programmer for the MSP430. I have finished the schematic in the EAGLE editor, but did not have time until now to do the layout. The work is based on Silabs 2102, but can be easily changed to the new FT232Rx. These new Usb to Uart bridges from fdti now also integrate the E2PROM, voltage regulator and oscillator, making all these external parts obsolet as well as the parts from Silabs. The same as with the silabs chips, these parts come with drivers for msw and linux. Parts can be easily ordered from farnell for 5 Euros, shipping is only 4 Euros in Europe and needs only a few days. FT232RL: SSOP http://at.farnell.com/jsp/endecaSearch/partDetail.jsp?SKU=9519793&N=0 FT232RQ: (QFN) http://at.farnell.com/jsp/endecaSearch/partDetail.jsp?SKU=1146033&N=0 Note: in contrast to the other parts, the FT232RL: SSOP can be soldered easily. If you are interested, I can provide the EAGLE schematic under GPL. Just give me a writable CVS directory. I can also help getting a layout finished. The circuit should be able to blow the fuse also and is much simpler than the TI programmer. It is also no problem for me to solder these parts together and help evaluating a circuit. Unfortunately, I do not have much time for the software part of this game. What is your opinion? It works well for long periods of time, but occasionally it gets stuck in a mode where neither msp430-jtag.py nor msp430-gdbproxy will work. msp430-gdbproxy gives the error "Could not find device (or device not supported)" and msp430-jtag.py gives the error "An error occured:" "Can't open interface" Normally both these tools work fine. However once the condition occurs, the only way I am able to clear it is to disconnect all cables and power from both the FET tool and from the target device. This is not normally a big deal, except that I have been working remotely of late, and I don't have physical access to the target and the FET. Does anyone know of a way to clear this condition remotely? Or, is there a way to prevent it from occurring?Does a reboot have any effect? It may be possible that the system's printer driver is causing problems, but you have probably already disabled that. I think some people have added a reset button to their FET tools for this same reason, although I have never had any problems with mine. The Anti-Spy-Software is wrong If so I can easily ignore the pop up messages. However, just one wrong click during the pop up message and msp430-downloader will be deleted. Furthermore, it might happen to other users and they may not take care to much and delete the file. I do not know whether one has to inform the anti-spy software companies or what to change in msp430-downloader.exe to help here. I assume since msp430-downloader is a "Send-me-data-on-a-special-way"-App it looks close to a worm. 2. My file got infected really. For that it would be interesting to know if you have the same experience then me for this particular file If not one of this f*cking worms hit me If yes goto point 1 ;) Bye Torsten ___________________________________________________________ Der fr?he Vogel f?ngt den Wurm. I run every time in trouble, when I configure the diverse peripherals of the MSP. Some bits are certainly wrong set. Does any one knows a program or so which throws out a skeleton for this. One could say for example as text : DMA nr bit|word from to int and I'd get the code for initialisation of a DMA. I remember slightly a GUI for such task's. Similar is the question of the documentation of the resources: How many int's, peripherals. thanks for any advice, Steffen -- -------------------------------------------------------------------- | Fraunhofer Institut Photonische Microsysteme | | | | Fraunhofer Institute for Photonic Microsystems ( Germany ) | | | | Steffen Netz | phone : ( +49 ) (0)351/8823-212 | | Maria-Reiche-Str. 2 | fax : ( +49 ) (0)351/8823-266 | | 01109 Dresden | email : steffen.n...@ipms.fraunhofer.de | -------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Take Surveys. Or can I just build a board around them and connect it to a linux system and have myself a USB to Serial bridge???Yes. no programming is needed, it works with the default ID without EEPROM (or an empty one). the driver downloads the code when the adapter is plugged in (reuqires that you have set up hotplug) as alternative you can also download the firmware to the EEPROM, which you can do in curcuit (at least with the Windows tools). i never tried this variant myself.what do I need to do in linux from a software/ driver perspective to use the TUSB and send serial out?while the driver is included in the kernel it seems that the hotplug scripts are not installed by default (at least not on my distro) there is a separate driver download (http://gate.brimson.com/downloads/) which includes the hotplug script ("make install"). chris ------------------------------ Message: 5 Date: Sun, 06 Aug 2006 20:18:03 +0200 From: Chris Liechti <cliec...@gmx.net> Subject: Re: [Mspgcc-users] MSP430 is not a worm ;) To: "GCC for MSP430 - http://mspgcc.sf.net" <mspgcc-users@lists.sourceforge.net>, tottiwag...@yahoo.de Message-ID: <44d6325b.3000...@gmx.net> Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-15; format=flowed Torsten Wagner schrieb:just like to let you know (if not known already) that some of my Anti-Virus, Anti-Worm, Anti-Spyware programs pop up and shout to me that C:\Programme\mspgcc\bin\msp430-downloader.exe seems to be a worm "Worm.RJump.a"i've installed the tool on machines with virus scanners and did not get any warnings.Since I do not believe that the MSPGCC-dev group has any interest to hack my computer nor to steal all my intellectual propertiesno, no interest :-)I assume since msp430-downloader is a "Send-me-data-on-a-special-way"-App it looks close to a worm.what do you mean by this? the downloader isn't that special. it accesses the giveio driver to gain access to the parallel port but that all about it that is special. it does not open any network connection. it only open a few files from the mspgcc/bin folder and of course the file you specified. chris ------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Take Surveys.
