turns out i'm an idiot and just didn't try the right email address.
my problem is solved.  any future responses to this i won't see (i hope).
also, you can post to this list from another email, i did.
for checking the header of the email, when i click "show details" in gmail,
all it shows in "to" field is:
"GCC for MSP430 - http://mspgcc.sf.net"; <[email protected]>

I'm not sure exactly how the sourceforge.net lists work, but most
subscription-only mailing lists will only allow you to post from your
subscribed address. So chances are, the address you used to sign up is
the one that shows in your "from" header.

You might also be able to figure it out by looking through the
detailed headers in your e-mail client.
