I agree that it's not a good idea to have more then 1 cygwin1.dll on your 
system. But my experience is that the newer versions generating the problem you 
have.

Change the newer Version with the version integrated in the 20060502 Package 
solved the problem for me.

I had 6 version of cygwin1.dll... but that wasn't a good idea. I had big 
troubles with my system (changing the PATH variable all the time).

Then I eliminated all dll with the exception of the newest and right now 
everything seems to be fine.

I guess, using only a newer version should fix your problems.
