Yes, windows is very weird.  That's why I try to use it as
little as is practical.

Ouch.  I've never hear much good about MFC.

That's what I have at the moment -- I've never tried to rotate
one of the displays.

ATI's drivers suck.  Especially under Linux.  The Xorg radeon
driver claims to support dual head.  From the "radeon" man page:

DESCRIPTION
       radeon is an Xorg driver for ATI RADEON based video cards.  It contains
       full support for 8, 15, 16 and 24 bit pixel  depths, dual-head  setup,
       flat panel, hardware 2D acceleration, hardware 3D acceleration (experi-
       mental on R300 and R400 series cards), hardware cursor, XV  extension,
       and the Xinerama extension.

I've never run dual-head on an ATI card (I try pretty hard to
avoid them), but a buddy of mine does it on is laptop regularly --
I think using both radeon and fglrx drivers.
